BIG FISH AT GUNTERSVILLE MAY 2008

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 5/17/08

Water Temperature 70 degrees

The bass proved to be a little tougher this past week, the bigger fish were harder to find and the number of bites came in streaks and not wide spread. I think the lake is suffering again from enormous pressure and not enough little fish to stay active all day long. The passage of several fronts over this past week also hurt that consistent bite.

The fish we did catch came mainly early in the first two hours of the morning off the ledges throwing Punisher Spinner Baits ¾ oz. in either Ghost color or Watermelon color. There is still shad out on the ledges willing to chase your spinner bait and create some short morning bites. The bite after that was pretty specific to humps, also some points and a slow presentation of a Mister Twister lizards or worms.

Any day now I have been expecting the top water bite to really turn on, but it seems we have a forever wind and it continues to push the bait down and hence make it tough to find a top water bite with any consistency. There seems to be a wind either every morning or evening when the top water bite should be good.

Most of the week I spent either up river in “Four Pound Alley” or in the mid part of the lake, most of the fish came off of 3 to 7 foot areas where the bass seemed hidden from the elements on into the day.

Come fish with me I have days available in May and June.
