WEST POINT MAY 2008

MAY 16, 2008

WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & 75 DEGREES BY CHRIS BRACKETT, HIGHLAND MARINA AND RESORT, 706 845 1004

Bass fishing has been a little slow this week but hang on, top water time is a day or two away. There are still some fish biting down lake on main lake points and shoal markers. Stick with the Lucky Craft 3.5 Fat CB in the crawfish color and the Booyah 3/8 blue herring HD spinnerbait for covering lots of water like last week. If I catch a fish I then slow down and throw my Silver shad 5" Yum Dinger and my ¼ ounce Evolution Jig in the color PB&J. Most of my fish are coming from grass or wood near deep water. The deeper pockets seem to work better than the long shallow ones and it seems like time of day hasn't mattered. Good pockets to fish are Rainbow Creek, Stroud Creek and all the cuts and pockets with deeper points on them. Also I wanted to let everyone know that Highland Marina's Resort New Premier Tackle shop will be completed in a few weeks so please come by and check out all of the newest Tournament proven lures on the market. And we have all of the newest West Point Lake T-Shirts including everyone’s favorite "Your lure sucks and your boat's ugly" Shirt in several colors and sizes.

Hybrid and striper fishing has been fair this week. There are still fish are still upriver but the fishing has died a lot since the past few weeks. The 2008 Striper run was really good this year and it's coming to a end. But there is still good news from now is when we can start down lining and pulling shad on balloons lake wide. Fish still haven't bunched up good but should pick up in the next several weeks. Also for you guys who don't know how to throw a cast net I will be doing several classes on how to catch bait, using cast nets, and hybrid and striper techniques for West Point Lake. Please call the Resort for details.

Crappie fishing is still good but the majority of the big fish are deep again. Small fish are in the backs of pockets in 3-6ft of water. I have been using live minnows on 4lb Sufix Elite Line because the fish have been somewhat picky. Good places to fish will be the Highlands Cove, Half Moon Creek, McGee Creek and the no name pockets mid lake.
