LAKE RUSSELL JUNE 2008

June 12, 2008

LAKE RUSSELL IS DOWN 2.1 FEET, 82 DEGREES

Bass fishing is fair for small fish but the larger fish are not active this week. Small spots are still roaming all over the lake especially around the rocks either in or near deep water. With the heat and humidity on the rise, try fishing late in the afternoon into the night. Top water baits will be productive during these periods. Daytime anglers are still picking apart every piece of submerged cover they can find with jigs and Carolina Rigs. Also don't forget to try down sizing those baits. Number 5 or 7 Shad Raps and DT10's are excellent crank baits to use this week over the stumps. Carolina Rigged Storm Rattle Tubes along with worms and lizards are also good baits to carry along. Slow cranking is still good over isolated stump fields in 10 to 14 feet of water. During the summer months, changing baits and patterns throughout the day will be necessary to bag a limit of good fish. This week, slow down the baits and make several presentations to each area.

CLARKS HILL IS CLEAR WITH WATER TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 83 TO 84.5 DEGREES, DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU PUT IN BY TIM WHITE - RAPALA PRO STAFF

Bass fishing has been on the increase this past week according to Tom Hall of South Carolina. Creel limits rose from ten to twelve pounds to fourteen to seventeen pounds in just one week. Night tournaments are in full force now, but some local clubs are still fishing during the daylight hours. Bass are grouping up on the humps and out in the creeks and river channels. Tom is reporting a good top water bite early in the morning and later on in the evening, but only for a couple of hours. Skitter Walks in the Shad and Blue Gill colors are great for walk-the-dog baits and Skitter Pops in Shad and Silver Blue for those popping action baits are working great. By mid morning, anglers are using a Zoom Trick Worm or a Zoom Mag 2 Worm on those Carolina Rigs in six to ten foot of water. They are fishing those same humps and channel ledges, but out on the drop offs or edges. Find a little structure on these edges and you are bound to get bit. Hybrids and Strippers are also schooling and anglers are picking them apart with those top water baits and Number Ten X-Raps.
