GUNTERSVILLE JUNE 2008

Tuesday I had the pleasure of fishing with Joe and Gerald again. These two guys have been fishing together longer than I have been alive and the last time I fished with them was in January when the crappie was biting like crazy. This trip they were looking to cash in on the Guntersville topwater bite and they did just that. We fished from 5:30-9:30am and they managed to catch a baker’s dozen and had many other opportunities. The highlight of the day was Joe losing an absolute mule over 7lbs when she jumped twice and shook loose. The baits of choice were the Xcalibur Zell Pop and Jimmy fished overtop of the hydrilla.

Today I had another half day trip but this was very special trip. It was one of those Father and Son trips that neither Brian nor his 11 year old son Jackson will ever forget. Both of them recently have taken up fishing and they wanted to try their luck on Guntersville. They came armed with spinning gear, so I knew it was going to be a real challenge for them to get those Guntersville bass out of the grass. To my surprise Jackson and Brian did fairly well with their spinning tackle, however they did have a few fish take them down into the grass and get off. The first memorial moment for today’s trip was Brian tangling with a monster before it got way down in the thick stuff. Second was Jackson landing a good fish on one side of the boat and Brian landing another on the opposite side (double pictured above). Total for the short trip was 16 fish all on the Xcalibur Zell Pop and Jimmy.
