WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & 84 DEGREES

Bass fishing has been good this week but a little on the tough side. With water temperatures over 90 degrees fish have moved deep on road beds, humps, and points. Up lake, Jackson Creek, Half Moon, and Yellow Jacket have been the prime creeks to fish. Start by throwing Norman DD22's, Poe's 400, or Mann's 20 Plus crank baits. Good colors to use are shad patterns and my favorite the all new Sexy Shad color. Fish are also in brush piles in 8 to 12 feet of water and can be caught in several other ways. The 3/8 ounce Picasso football head jigs rigged with a Paca chunk and Carolina rigs are also just as hot. With a Carolina rig fish a long fluorocarbon leader and 3/4 ounce. weight and match it up with a 7 foot medium heavy rod. Down lake, the patterns are similar but the top water bite is better because of the clearer water. Good baits to try are a Pop-R, Sammy, and a Storm Chug Bug. Fish these over shallow brush for some good bites. Also, a 1/4 ounce. Shakey head rigged with a finesse worm fished around the bridge columns has been producing some small Spots.

Hybrid and striper fishing has been fair this week. Use down lined shad in 17 to 25 feet of water. With the water temperature hot, be sure to ice down your shad tank and make sure you have the proper mixture of chemicals. This week down lake is the best place to go. Fish road beds, humps, and tree tops down by the damn. Watch your graph to find the schools of fish. Good places to start are Wedhakee Creek, Rainbow Creek, and Bird Creek.

Catfish are slow. Fish the river channel with liver, shad, or night crawlers for the best results. Good places to start right now are the McGhee road bed and Half Moon damn. Fish up to 5lbs are common but the bigger fish seem to be coming from down lake.

Crappie fishing is fair. Night fishing is best way to catch Crappie this time of year. Yellow Jacket bridge and Roanoke bridge are the best places to tie up but be sure to put out hydra glow lights or any kind of floating light to attract the fish. Fish live minnows in 10-15 feet of water. Jiffy Jigs are also a good alternative. The best colors to use right now are black and blue, red and white, and black and chartreuse.
