Set your Sights on Bowhunting

Are you planning to bow hunt this fall? Don't be one of the people who waits until the last minute to get their equipment checked and ready for bow hunting season.
Are you buying a new bow?
If you are ,you need to be doing it now so you will be used to it by hunting season.
Here is a checklist for you to use in checking your equipment and in making a new purchase:

• Bow
If it is new, be sure all the accessories fit.

• Arrow Rest
Is it a heavy-duty rest? Is it mounted with a thead locker? Is it one that your arrows won't fall off when drawing?

• Sight
Does it have pins that you can see in low light in dark woods? Is it mounted with a thread locker so it won't come loose?

• Bow quiver
Will the arrows stay in it without falling out or making noise when you shoot? Will it hold carbon or aluminum arrows?

• Bow string
Do you have a string loop? It will hold the arrow on the string if you have to let down. Many times, if you have to let down, your arrow will fall off the string and make noise or you may have to re-nock it and this makes noise which could cause you to lose that big one.
A string loop solves this problem. String silencers help to keep the noise down.

• String peep
Make sure the hole is big enough to see through in low light. Make sure it turns right when you draw. You may need an aligning tube to ensure that the peep turns.

• Stabilizer
It should be 12 inches or shorter.

• Bow sling
This will allow you to shoot with a relaxed grip without dropping the bow.

• Arrows
Are they spined right for your new bow? Are they aluminum or carbon? What kind of broadhead are you using? Is it legal? Is your bow tuned for the thread you are using?
If you use a fixed-blade head you do need to tune your bow to use these heads because they will not hit the same as your field points. Be sure your broadheads are sharp.

• Hunting clothing
Be sure the camo matches the area that you're hunting. Make sure you can shoot in your hunting clothing without hitting your clothing.
Be sure you practice with equipment you are going to hunt with and the clothing you will be wearing.
You don't need any surprises when you have that big one in your sights.
